My Journey
I had always been overweight. Especially with three pregnancies and then a thyroid problem
that by 2004 ballooned my weight up to 220 pounds. I am diabetic, asthmatic, had high cholesterol,
and was taking a lot of medications. I was always tired, sleeping 16 hours a day. When I finally
got on the proper thyroid medication and some hormone therapy, my energy came back. I knew
I needed to change my lifestyle. I started by reading a book from Dr. Pamela Peake, Body for
Life for Women. I found an eating plan I could live with, plus she took me on as her patient.
I met with her nutritionist in Bethesda, Maryland, who started me on my way to eating often
with balance and portion control. I started taking classes at the local gym, using weights and a circuit
program. I always liked lifting weights, so I thought I would try the 3 sessions with a personal
trainer special. So I met Mindy. That was an eye opener for me. I learned so much and had such
fantastic results from working with Mindy that I kept coming back for more. After training with
Mindy for one year, I removed over 75 pounds and went from a size 22 to a size 8. On the average,
I lost about 1 to 3 pounds a week. I was taking 3 to 4 insulin shots a day and I cut that in
half. I got off my cholesterol medicine as well. My blood work has been in the normal
limits now for the past 2 years, and I feel great. I found a lifestyle I could live with.
Mindy has been such an inspiration to me that I enrolled in a personal trainer course
and got certified in 2007. I am excited to share my journey and help others feel better
and live longer.
